WVGS Classes/Workshops


To help you with your Genealogy, we offer a variety of basic-advanced Genealogy related classes/workshops.  Sessions are held in our Library in our Traditional classroom and our New PC classroom.

 

We cover the ins and outs of Genealogy, Genealogy Libraries, Genealogy Computer Programs, Technology Aids, Preserving Memories and Photos.  Classses may be registered and paid for at the library, on line or at our monthly Monday meetings.

Novice Genealogy


This class will focus on the first steps needed to get you started on your research. No prior knowledge is necessary. There will be a new class the 3rd Friday of each month.


Friday, 1:00 - 3:30 pm, every 3rd Friday unless noted.

Beginning DNA for Genealogy


This class will focus on autosomal DNA- the DNA which includes all your ancestral lines. A brief look at chromosomes and types of DNA, DNA from one generation to the next (Did I get all of great grandma’s DNA?) and testing companies.

Uncovering Hidden Treasures at FamilySearch.org

 

January 21, 2017; Saturday, 1:00 - 3:00 pm

 

FamilySearch.org is more than a Family Tree. Learn how to use this valuable free website, containing images of original records from all over the world, including Historical Records, Books and the Wiki and Learning Center.

Analyzing and Citing Sources - It's A Necessity - Not an Option!

Got a Brick Wall? It might be because you need to analyze the sources you already have more carefully. Bring 2 source documents from your files and join us to explore how to understand and cite them.

Evaluating Evidence:  Are you a Name Collector or a Researcher?
