ABOUT US
The Sun City Genealogical Society was founded in 1972 with 36 charter members. Members began donating books & quarterly publications to the Society which were kept in a member's home. In 1984 the collection was placed in the Sun City West Library till the library needed the space. In January 1990 the Society was notified, the library needed the space.
A new home was found in the Valley View Professional Building on 113th Avenue in Youngtown under our new name of Sun Cities Genealogical Society. A Building Fund was started at this time to buy a building in the future. In 1997, we outgrew the 113th Avenue building and a 5 year lease for space was obtained at 11116 W. California Avenue, Youngtown. Again, we changed our name to West Valley Genealogical Society to be more inclusive.
The lease was coming the an end in 2000 and more space was needed. The building across the street at 12222 N. 111th Avenue was for sale. We were able to buy it, and certificate of occupancy was given by Sun City Fire District on December 21, 2001, we completed the move into our new home at 4 p.m. December 31, 2001. Nearly 50 Society volunteers accomplished this task at no cost to the Society. The Library resumed its regular schedule on January 3, 2002 and we've been operating at this address ever since.
